Paper is one of the most sustainable products, as it is made from renewable resources. It is both biodegradable and a source for renewable energy. As trees grow they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, and paper continues to store carbon throughout its lifetime.
Recycling paper conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and avoids landfill. Paper recycling also reduces our dependence on oil products, and avoids the damage caused to the environment by plastics. Paper is the most recycled product in Europe – over 72%.
Biological organisms can break down paper products into CO2, water, and biomass. It means that paper pollutes far less than its main alternatives.
